What really matters to you?
What really matters to me is enjoyment of life. I go to bed at 8 p.m., I wake up at about 4.30 a.m., I exercise six to seven times per week, I’m done eating by about 3 p.m – I make dinner at 2 p.m. – I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t do drugs. People might think that is not enjoying life, but it matters to me to have the best energy and the best feeling of well-being, because to me that’s the foundation of health. I can show up better in my marriage, I can show up better for those that I love. To me, waking up at 4.30 in the morning bursting with energy is the most exciting thing. That’s what matters: being able to show up for people I love and contribute in a meaningful way to the world.
What have you had to free yourself from in your life?
Many things. Other people’s opinions. When I first started getting into all this over a decade ago, there were so many negative opinions. ‘Why would you do this?’ There’s still a conversation to be had about who decided it’s the best life to stay out late, etc. So I think other people’s opinions would be the biggest one.
Also, things of the past. We all, no matter where we came from, always think we could have it better growing up, so having to work through some of those things. Mental health is a huge pillar of longevity, and if you’re not mentally content, that can be a huge impedance to the enjoyment of life.
“FREEDOM FOR ME IS HEALTH.”
What responsibility do you feel to help others become more free?
I feel, probably unnecessarily, an immense responsibility. I think once you’ve tapped into something you’re excited about, and you have built an audience – I’ve built an audience of over a million individuals, most of them women – you do feel a responsibility. I feel a responsibility to help other women potentially explore how they can optimise their health, how they can feel their best.
Because, at the end of the day, you can have a thousand wishes. The second that your health becomes a problem, you only have one. Everything in your life recentres on what’s going on with your health. If we can optimise it and improve the time we don’t have to worry about our health, that’s an immense blessing.
